Chronicles of Milton is the history of Milton, Connecticut, a rural village located in the town of Litchfield in the northwest part of the state. Broadly speaking, it is a document of westward expansion of earlier Colonial settlements and growth of industrial-based village economies upon abundant New England water power.
This book is an assemblage of the history, folklore, art and architecture, religion, education and population of the area known originally as "Blue Swamp," which was set out to proprietors in the first half of the eighteenth century. Chronicles of Milton introduces us to the mill wrights and iron masters, the artisans and builders, the educators and clergy and the "regular folk" who have populated the village for over 250 years.Blacksmith Shop, 1884 Through the Chronicles of Milton, we can walk the roads of the village, enter the selling - and meetinghouses of the people, and share in their stories, their triumphs and tragedies.

Over sixty years in the making, Chronicles of Milton is a record not only of one particular village in Connecticut, but also of the rapidly vanishing heritage that was small-town America.

Milton Chronicles
The Milton Woman's Club, which helped lay the foundation for these chronicles, was organized June 1927.

"The object of the Club is to promote the social, cultural and civic interests of the women of this community..." Monies collected from members' dues and other fund raising events, such as the sale of this book, is given to many worthy causes; donation of books to the local schools and churches, as well as a math prize each year at the Litchfield High School awards banquet.
